Professional Mediator

About
Approach
I follow facilitative mediation and assists the parties in reaching a mutually acceptable resolution. My role is to facilitate communication, encourage collaboration, and guide the parties in identifying their underlying interests rather than focusing solely on their positions or demands. I approach this by being "soft on the person, tough on the problem," ensuring that the parties retain responsibility for the outcome while I only manage the process. The process typically begins with preliminary intake assessments and opening statements, during which I establish ground rules, build trust, and ensure a safe environment for all parties. This is followed by joint sessions where both parties can present their perspectives and private sessions (caucuses) where I can engage in active listening, reframing, and exploring the parties' underlying needs. I employ various strategies, including collaborative brainstorming and reality testing, to assist the parties in generating and evaluating potential solutions. The goal is to empower the parties to craft their own unique and durable resolution. The process is flexible, informal, and confidential, allowing the parties to explore creative and non-conventional remedies that address their long-term interests. I ensure impartiality and neutrality throughout the process, focusing on facilitating discussions rather than imposing solutions.
